Contact Group Wins Lighting & Diversity Awards
Contact Group was extremely humbled to win several awards at the 2024 NECA Excellence Awards, held in Hobart on Saturday evening.
Over 300 people from the electrical industry attended the Awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements and the best projects across the State.
It was fantastic to see Michael Ferguson the Deputy Premier, Treasurer, Minister for Small Business and Consumer Affairs in attendance, as well as Eric Abetz, the Minister for Business, Industry and Resources.

Contact Group was recognised as a finalist in several categories including the Industrial Small Project Excellence Award for our electrical installation at Petuna’s Cressy III Hatchery, as well as the Audio-Visual Excellence Award for our design and installation of the Holman Clinic Videowall Project.
A huge congratulations to all our staff who worked on the St. John’s Anglican Church Project which won the Lighting Design/Construct Excellence Award.

Contact Group was contracted by the Anglican Archdiocese to undertake a major renovation of the Heritage Listed Church which included the supply and installation of new lighting, upgrades to exit and emergency lighting and architectural house lighting, as well as the installation of theatre lighting.
We have also carried out significant heating upgrades, switchboard upgrades, and designed and installed a new Audio-Visual system.

Built in 1825 the Church is one of Tasmania’s most architecturally significant buildings and the oldest building that can be positively dated in Launceston.
The judges recognised the complexities related to the heritage site and the 17metre high dome, the attention to detail and the quality workmanship.

Contact Group also won the Leaders in Diversity Award, which recognised our advocacy for women in the industry, our inclusive workplace, mentoring and specialty training for staff.
Contact Group’s General Manager, Dion Frame, congratulated all the finalists and said it was an honour to be recognised in these categories.
“The St John’s Church Project was a unique one for our team, working in such a historic building and at such great heights,” he said.
“Our staff did an exceptional job and definitely deserved this recognition.”

Our fourth-year Apprentice Chey Sullivan won two Awards, including the Commercial/Domestic Apprentice of the Year and the Women in Energy Award, with Jasmyn Smith.
Despite five generations of family involvement in the electrical industry, as a woman Chey was advised against pursuing a trade.
As an Apprentice Chey has been helping other women overcome similar challenges and outdated perceptions of undertaking a trade in the electrical industry.

Mr Frame said Chey is a great advocate for women and a positive role model to young girls, who may not realise the opportunities for women our sector.
A huge thank you to NECA Tasmania for organising such a successful evening and congratulations to all the finalists and winners of the Excellence Awards.
A big thank you to all the sponsors, who supported the event and everyone from NECA Education and Careers.
